Painting begins with my light and middle value washes. A lot of ground is covered in the first 30 minutes.
I continue to build up my values getting darker as I go. I concentrate on the distant mountain for a moment, establishing a little detail there.
Now I throw in my darkest darks in a couple of places to give me a gauge for the rest of the values.
Now the painting starts to take shape with the addition of more darks and negative painting for the shrubbery.
Now to balance my values, I move to the foreground and begin adding the darkest darks there.
The finished painting, “Watchman Glow” 12 x 20 purchased by Ken Crandall.
