On 300 lb. Arches watercolor paper, stretched and taped to a board, I start with the colorful base washes or glazes using a wet-in-wet technique. The technique is loose with very little detail at this point.
After the sky was laid in, I continued to add washes to the water, establishing the horizon line, finished up by painting the vaka and the shoreline. Just to add a little life I also placed some birds in the sky.
