Pathway to the Angels

Watercolor Painting of Angels Landing in Zion National Park

About this Item

The hike to Angels Landing in Zion National Park is a life-changing experience for many people. Even though hikers are always fully aware of the danger presented by the precarious final traverse across a narrow ridgeline, I think they are often surprised at their own bodys reaction to actually being there. It is definitely a scary experience, but I love watching the the countenances of the people who have conquered their fear and completed the route. Descending from the peak they walk lightly, chattering gleefully, with a general look of deep satisfaction on their faces. My watercoor painting represents the view just past Scout Lookout which in itself is a fantastic viewpoint. The cliffs drop away abruptly on the left in a sheer drop to the canyon floor. Ahead lies the goal, and the spot where thousands of people have struggled with the stark reality of life and death before gripping the chains and watchfully scrambling up the rocky pathway to the angels.
