I am grateful that juror Betsy Dillard Stroud chose two of my paintings for the Spring 2019 UWS competition. “Railroad Summit” depicts three railroad men, the engineer, a mechanic, and management having a deep discussion amid swirls of steam along side a vintage engine. “Still Workin'” is a painting of a dear friend of mine who still works hard on his ranch even into his nineties. I used complementary color theme of orange and blue, along with stained and rusty background to echo the rugged look on his work-stained clothes and determined face.

Sensitive portrait of your ranching friend. Is it done from life or a photo or both?
