“Next-level Landscapes” All-Media Painting Workshop February 25-26, 2016
Sponsored by the Southern Utah Art Guild, this workshop is designed to help artists become better interpreters of the landscape by learning to see what nature does to catch our attention. Our role is not to duplicate nature but to create new images based on our personal experiences. Using Powerpoint and live demonstrations, plus printed handouts, Roland will guide us through the steps he uses to create exciting studio paintings from on-location sketchbook drawings and ordinary reference photos.
We will do a number of painting studies in class, and complete one finished painting. Topics include: Learning to see the light – values, edges, and shapes: Developing Your Artist’s Brain; Creating wonderful three-color skies in minutes; Using a travel sketchbook; and Making winning paintings from wimpy photos.
Roland will be demonstrating in watercolors, but will be teaching timeless principles that are fundamental to all mediums of art. Although all mediums are welcome, the experienced watercolorist will probably gain the most from his presentation.
Class fee: $175 for two days, 9am to 4pm each day.
Location: New ETC Electric Theater Center. 68 East Tabernacle, St. George UT 84770
