Winners’ Roundup: The Best of the West
February 24 thru July 8, 2007
“Please Close the Door” watercolor by Roland Lee from the collection of Elwyn and Thelma Reeder on display at the Phippen Museum’s Winner’s Roundup Show featuring past award winners.
One of the most ambitious exhibitions ever assembled at the Phippen is coming up during late February through early July. During the 32 years of the Phippen Museum Western Art Show and Sale, there has never been group recognition of those artists who displayed their work at the Courthouse Plaza over Memorial Day Weekend and won awards during these wonderful outdoor exhibitions. The show was an essential fundraising component in helping to contribute monies to support the creation of the art museum building.
Over 100 pieces in oil, acrylic, watercolor pastel, drawing, mixed media and sculpture will be on display in the Main Gallery and Cultural Hall of the Phippen. Many currently collectible and well known artists further built up their careers with the recognition gained in the Phippen Memorial Day Western Art Show.
The show will offer an excellent opportunity to revisit old favorites by renowned CA members, as well as the chance to enjoy new work by emerging and seasoned CA professionals. Over 95 award winning artists works will be on display including Roland Lee, Bill Anton, Bonnie Casey, Shawn Cameron,G. Russell Case, Patricia Dobson John Coleman, Gene Dieckhoner, Don Dernovich, Tom Haas, Doug Hall, Russell Houston, Raleigh Kinney, Steven Lang, Jan Mapes, Curt Mattson, Bill Nebeker, Rock Newcomb, Ray Roberts, Lyn St. Clair, Ray Swanson and D. Michael Thomas.
The exhibit can be previewed by lenders, artists and museum members at the opening reception on Friday, February 23, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Phippen Art Museum. Members may attend free of charge and guests can be brought at $10 per person.
