I continue to add the lightest and middle values throughout the painting until most of the surface is covered in paint. I preserve the white paper in certain areas by using the negative painting technique which can be seen in the tree shape in the foreground. I’m paying careful attention to the areas where the direct sunlight changes to the form shadow. That’s where the detail will be.
