Sponsored by the Utah Watercolor Society, this workshop is designed to help artists become better interpreters of the landscape by learning to see what nature does to catch our attention. Our role is not to duplicate nature but to create new images based on our personal choice. Using Powerpoint and live demonstrations, plus printed handouts, Roland will guide us through the steps he uses to create exciting studio paintings from on-location sketchbook studies and ordinary reference photos. We will do a number of painting studies in class, and complete one small finished painting. Subjects include: Seeing the light; Amazing 3-minute skies; Unraveling the secrets of negative painting; Guaranteeing success with sketchbook value studies; and Creating winning paintings from wimpy photos.
