Misty River – Zion National Park

Watercolor Painting of Virgin River in Zion National Park by Roland Lee

About this Item

This painting was done in my studio using my memory and my imagination. Although we don’t often find mist along the river in Zion Canyon, we do see very low clouds during stormy weather. This image was inspired by the way Thomas Moran and some of the early Zion painters interpreted the cliffs they discovered. I was invited to participate with about 20 other artists in the “Footsteps of Thomas Moran” plein air event during Zion’s Centennial celebration in 2009.
