Bear Paw Poppies in Southern Utah

The Bearpaw Poppy is only found in select locations in Washington County, Utah. I saw these while hiking along the Bear Paw Bike Trail near St. George. They are beautiful delicate flowers growing in small bunches, in the worst looking Cryptobiotic soil possible. Because of the soil, which you cannot walk on, I had to shoot them with a long lens from the trail. I composed my painting with the red mesa behind them. Image size: 15 x 22. Collection G. Ovard
