When Carolyn Lord and Spike Ress put their heads together, they came up with a grand idea to honor the late great watercolor artist and teacher Milford Zornes. A fall retreat, at his former studio in Mt. Carmel, Utah would be just the thing! And so the artists came. To paint outdoors, share ideas, enjoy meals together, and relax under the golden Cottonwoods and Carmel Cliffs near Zion National Park. I was lucky to be invited and thrilled to make many new friends. Paul and Susan Bingham, whose Thunderbird Foundation, now owns the property were willing to sponsor us, providing both lodging and studio space. Among those attending were: Carolyn Lord, Spike Ress, Frank Huff, Roland Lee, David Lee, Terri Wells, Meredith Nemirov, Jamie Morgan, James Asher, Joe Anna Arnett, Glen Knowles, and Sid Bingham. We felt the spirit of Zornes as we painted outdoors daily, and sat by the fire in his studio talking late into the night.
