We visited the Cook Islands in the South Pacific and found a wealth of painting material. I enjoyed the little single outriggers called Vakas. They would lean them against the trees to dry.

With the addition of darker values in the coconut palms above the vaka, and a little more foreground detail, the painting is finished.

My paper is Arches cold press. After sketching out my image i lay in loose washes in the light and middle value areas.

I add successive layers of darker glazes to build up my values working from light to dark.
