Sponsored by the California Watercolor Association. This workshop is designed to help artists become better interpreters of the landscape by learning to see how nature catches our attention. Our role is not to duplicate nature but to create new images based on our personal experiences. Using Powerpoint and live demonstrations, plus printed handouts, Roland will guide us through the steps he uses to create exciting studio landscape paintings from on-location sketchbook studies and ordinary reference photos. We will do a number of paintings studies in class, and complete one small finished painting. Roland will be demonstrating in watercolors, all levels are welcome, but the experienced watercolorist will probably gain the most from his presentation. Subjects include: Seeing the light; Amazing 3-minute skies; Unraveling the frustrations of negative painting; Guaranteeing success with sketchbook value studies; and Creating winning paintings from wimpy photos.
