This is a one-day watercolor workshop sponsored by the Dixie Watercolor Society. I will be teaching my approach to building a successful watercolor painting.
1. Getting started right. How to make better paintings from your reference photos including, center of interest cropping, re-arranging elements, overlapping shapes, Using aerial perspective to create depth. Making 3 x 5 value studies to test your composition.
2. Understanding shape, value, edges, and color as applied to watercolor. Learning to paint “value shapes” instead of “things” is the first step to creating awesome paintings.
3. “Shadows are our friends.”A closer look at shadows, and how they help us add realism to our paintings.
