Swiss Village
Original painting by Roland Lee of a swiss village on the road to St. Moritz
About this Item
We spent a month traveling by automobile in Bavaria, and along the Alps in Switzerland and Austria and I painted a whole body of work from that trip. We passed this wonderful village on a trip to St. Moritz. While the larger cities are wonderful for their culture and history, I am always drawn to the smaller villages which reflect the true nature of any country. The tall square structure is a “burg” or castle used for defense. Many of them can be seen dotting the foothills along the valleys. While in Switzerland I was able to hike to seven of them and do some sketching. Also typical of the area is the onion-shaped tower on the church and the red roofs.
