These giant stones were placed in careful position many hundreds of years ago, and have been the source of questions ever since. People flock to this spot in great numbers to walk around the stone circle and feel the spirit there. Photos will always show the huge crowds, but as a painter, I removed all the onlookers and made a portrait of just the stones in their glorious setting. I sketched it on the spot, but knew while I was there, how I would portray it back in the studio.
