Sagebrush Serenade

Watercolor Painting of Old Man Sage near Kayenta Utah

About this Item

Over the past 30 years of living in southern Utah I have grown to love the striking red cliffs which surround my home. The morning and afternoon sun lights up the sandstone walls in brilliant hues of crimson, while the soft purple shadows fold neatly across the ridges from rim to rim. Stretching out below in every direction is a sea of orange sand deposited by countless years of erosion, punctuated here and there by the feathery gray-green wisps of “old man sage” which somehow find a way to grow in this land of little rain. This scene is typical of the area from Snow Canyon to the Kayenta Cliffs.
