Morning Light on The Sentinel

Watercolor painting of the Sentinel in Zion National Park

About this Item

During the “Footsteps of Thomas Moran” plein air paintout we spent a week painting on location in Zion National Park. I sketched this early morning scene of the Sentinel in pencil, returning the next morning to paint a small swatercolor study on site. Finally, as Thomas Moran did, I used both studies back in the studio to come up with this big painting. The painting was auctioned at the Dixie State University Fire and Ice event for $3500 to raise money for needs-based scholarships.
